How to Make Assemblies Optional

This article explains how to set assemblies as optional within a construction estimate. By making assemblies optional, estimators can provide clients with flexible proposals that show base costs as well as add-on options.

Find the Assembly:

  • Go to the assembly you want to make optional. Assemblies in Bolster are denoted by an icon with three stacking boxes.

Open Assembly Options:

  • Click on the assembly icon to open its settings. This will open the details panel where you can adjust assembly settings.

Go into the Sales section of the details panel.

Make Assembly Optional:

  • Scroll down in the assembly settings panel until you see the Make this Assembly Optional option. This will give the client the ability to choose if they want this group of items or work scopes in their project.

Save and Exit:

  • Once you’ve selected the optional setting, click the X in the top corner to exit the panel.

  • You’ll see a little arrow in the top right corner of the assembly to indicate it’s been made optional.
