Creating a Custom Input for Color Selection in a Proposal Using Bolster

Overview
By integrating a custom color selection directly into your proposal, you can give your clients a more interactive and personalized experience. This is especially useful for items like paint, where clients can choose from a wide range of colors. With Bolster, you can easily link an item to a complete color fandex, such as Benjamin Moore, and let clients select their preferred shade.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure you have an estimate template open and ready to modify.
  • Decide which color library (e.g., Benjamin Moore Complete Colour Fandex) you want to link.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Add a New Item

    • From your estimate template, click Add Item.
    • Name your item. For example, “Paint.”
  2. Access the Item’s Sales Settings

    • After adding your item, click the Queue (Q) icon or cube icon next to the item.
    • Select the Sales tab to access the item’s settings.
  3. Enable Custom Color Selection

    • In the Sales settings, you’ll find an option to request a custom color from the customer.
    • Link the item to the appropriate color library, such as the Benjamin Moore Complete Colour Fandex.
  4. Set Selection Requirements

    • Determine if the color choice should be optional or required by toggling the corresponding options.
    • Optional: The client may skip the selection if they prefer.
    • Required: The client must select a color before finalizing the proposal.
  5. Preview Client Experience

    • Once saved, the client will see a color selection tool within the proposal.
    • They can browse and select any color from the Benjamin Moore fan deck directly from the proposal on their end.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Clear Naming: Give the item a descriptive name so clients understand what they’re selecting.
  • Guidance: Consider adding instructions or notes to help clients make informed color choices.
  • Testing: Preview the proposal from the client’s perspective to ensure the color selection tool is working correctly.
