How to Add Descriptions for Assemblies and Items in an Estimate

Learn how to add detailed descriptions to line items and assemblies in an estimate so clients know exactly what they're purchasing.

Overview
Adding a description to a line item or assembly lets clients see exactly what they are purchasing and what each line item represents when viewing their proposal in Quick View.

Before You Begin

  • Open the project estimate you want to add descriptions to.

  • If you don't see the Description column, click the description icon (labeled Desc.) to show the descriptions in your estimate.

Adding a Description to a Line Item

1. Locate the line item in your estimate.

2. Click into the description box for that line item. An icon will appear.

3. Type in the description, or copy and paste it from another source, such as a webpage or a catalog description.

4. Alternatively, click the cube icon to open the description field, where you can enter your description and add attributes if needed.

5. Click Save to update the line item.

Adding a Description to an Assembly

1. Locate the assembly in your estimate.

2. Click the cube icon underneath Description.

3. Enter your description in the field that appears, adding attributes if needed.

4. Click Save to update the assembly.

 

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Description not saving: Check that you have permission to edit the estimate. If you're still having issues, try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache.
  • Descriptions not showing: Check whether any filters are applied that might be hiding certain assemblies or items.

  • Yes, descriptions can be edited at any time by following the same steps above.

Is there a character limit?

  • Typically descriptions should not exceed 500 characters to keep it concise.
