How to Use Calculated Dimensions in Line Items
Learn how to link a line item's quantity to a calculated dimension, such as Interior Wall Area, using the cube icon and Quantity settings in Bolster.
Overview
You can use a calculated dimension in a line item to automatically tie its quantity to a linked dimension, such as an Interior Wall Area, combined with a calculation. This is useful for line items like drywall, where the quantity should be based on an area already calculated elsewhere in your project.
Before You Begin
- Identify the line item you want to update (e.g., a drywall line item) and the dimension you want to link it to (e.g., Interior Wall Area).
1. On your line item, click the cube icon.
2. Click OK.
3. Click on Quantity.
4. Click Use a Link Dimension.
5. Select the dimension you want to link, such as Interior Wall Area.
6. Join the linked dimension with a calculation of your choice as needed.
Why This Matters
-
Lets the quantity of a line item update automatically based on a linked dimension, such as an area calculated elsewhere in your project, rather than requiring a manual entry.
Summary
To use a calculated dimension in a line item, click the cube icon on the line item, click OK, click Quantity, choose Use a Link Dimension, select the dimension to link (such as Interior Wall Area), and join it with a calculation as needed.
