How do I import clients using the upgraded workflow in Bolster?

The upgraded Client Import workflow in Bolster makes bulk importing faster, safer, and easier to review. It uses an interactive table to highlight changes, match existing records, and help you import or update clients with confidence.

The Client Imports (Workflow Upgrade) feature in Bolster improves how you bring client data into your account. It provides a cleaner, spreadsheet-style interface using the Sheets component and introduces match detection, category assignment, and real-time change previews before importing. These upgrades make bulk client management more accurate and efficient.

What the Client Import tool does

The Client Import tool allows you to:

  • Bulk import new clients into Bolster from a spreadsheet or CSV file.

  • Automatically detect duplicates using match logic, so you can choose to update existing clients instead of creating duplicates.

  • Review and edit data in a live table (the same Sheets component used in the Item Import tool).

  • Preview changes and confirm before finalizing imports.

  • Assign clients to categories or specific company folders where applicable.

  • Maintain consistent formatting and ensure data integrity during import.

How to import clients with the upgraded workflow

  1. Go to the Import section in your Bolster account.

  2. Choose Clients as your import type.

  3. Upload your CSV or spreadsheet with client data.

    • The importer automatically maps common fields (name, email, phone, address).

    • You can manually adjust column mappings if needed.

  4. Review your data in the Sheets-style table:

    • Use the Match Indicator to see if a record already exists.

    • Toggle whether to update or skip each matched client.

    • Make inline edits to fix or standardize values before finalizing.

  5. Click Import Clients once everything looks correct.

Bolster will then:

  • Create new client entries for unmatched records.

  • Update existing clients for any matched records you’ve approved.

Key improvements in the workflow

  • Match control: Lets you see which existing client each record matches and decide how to handle it.

  • Category column: Choose the client group or folder directly from the import sheet.

  • Conditional formatting: Highlights changes or conflicts so you can review before importing.

  • Sheets component integration: Gives a consistent, editable grid interface for easy inline corrections.

Tips

  • Clean up your spreadsheet before uploading (consistent headers, remove duplicates).

  • Use the match indicator to prevent overwriting or duplicating client data.

  • Take advantage of inline editing for quick corrections before confirming the import.
