How to Use Linked Dimensions in Estimates

Overview
Linked dimensions let you take one manual measurement and link it across multiple line items in your estimate. You can also use linked dimensions to connect line items to your takeoff tab, either by manually drawing the takeoff or by using the hover method. There are two ways to link a dimension: a quick method using the quantity field directly, or a longer method using the cube icon, which gives you access to more tools, including creating a custom dimension.

Before You Begin

• Have the line item you want to link a dimension to ready in your estimate.
  
  

Option 1: Quick Method

1. Click on the Quantity field of the line item.

2. Choose to link the quantity to a dimension by selecting one of the suggested dimensions, or click See All Dimensions to choose from the full list.

Option 2: Longer Method

1. Click the cube icon next to Quantity.

2. In the panel that opens, go to the Link Dimensions tab.

3. Click See All Dimensions to view and select from the full list of available dimensions.

4. If you use your own job site verbiage or nomenclature, click to create a custom dimension instead of using one of the existing ones.

Once a dimension is linked, it can be connected to your takeoff tab manually through the draw takeoff, or through the hover method.

Tips & Best Practices

• Use the quick method for simple links: If you just need to link a quantity to a suggested dimension, clicking directly on Quantity is the fastest path.
• Use the cube icon for more control: The longer method gives you access to additional tools, including custom dimensions.
• Create custom dimensions for site-specific terms: If your job site uses its own naming conventions, set up a custom dimension so your measurements match your team's language.
