How to Use AI Autofill for Estimate Items
Bolster's AI Autofill (also called Autocompletion) speeds up the estimating process by automatically populating line item details as soon as you type an item name. With a single keystroke, AI pulls in a description and a supply-and-install price from the auto-cost library
Steps
1. Open an Estimate
Navigate to the estimate you are working on and go to add a new line item.
2. Type the Item Name
Start typing the name of the item you want to add. For example: bathroom vanity or bathroom faucet.
3. Press Tab
Once you've typed the item name, press the Tab key on your keyboard. AI will do the rest.
4. Review the Autofilled Details
Within seconds, the line item will be populated with:
- A description — a generalistic summary of what the item includes (e.g., vanity, faucet, sink, countertop)
- A price — a supply-and-install cost pulled from the auto-cost library
5. Edit as Needed
The autofilled details are a starting point — review and adjust the description and price to match your specific scope before finalizing the estimate.
Important: Always Check What's Included
AI-generated line items vary in what they include. Before saving:
- Check whether labour is included. Some items include installation labour in the price; others list it as separate.
- Review the description to confirm what's covered — for example, a bathroom vanity entry may include the faucet, sink, and countertop, while labour is called out separately.
Key Notes
- Autofill works directly in the estimate — no need to search a catalog manually.
- Pricing is sourced from the auto-cost library, so it reflects generalistic market rates.
- All autofilled details are fully editable after generation.
