How to Add AI Upgrades to Line Items
Bolster's AI upgrade feature automatically generates alternative product or material selections for any standard line item in a proposal. In seconds, AI surfaces upgrade and downgrade options
How the AI Search Works
When you trigger AI upgrades on a line item, Bolster searches for alternatives in the following order:
- Your own catalog — checks for similar items you've already added
- The auto-cost library — searches Bolster's built-in cost database
- The internet — broadens the search if no matches are found in the above sources
Steps
1. Open the Line Item
Navigate to the proposal and locate the line item you want to add upgrades to. In the line item, click either the cube icon or the auto-cost symbol to open the item details.
2. Trigger AI Upgrades
In the item details panel, find the Upgrades section. Click the blue Gemini "Add upgrades for me" button.
3. Wait for AI to Generate Options
The AI will take approximately 10–15 seconds to generate upgrade and downgrade alternatives for the line item.
4. Review the Generated Options
Once complete, close out of the item details and click Proposal to see the results. The line item will now display multiple product options with:
- Additive pricing built in for each option
- A good, better, best tiered structure
5. Customize as Needed
You can refine the generated options at any time:
- Delete any options that aren't relevant
- Add your own alternatives manually
