How to Add Pictures and Descriptions to Line Items

Learn how to add pictures and descriptions to individual line items and assemblies in Bolster estimates and proposals, including using the AI image generator.

Adding pictures and descriptions to your line items and assemblies helps differentiate your estimates and proposals from competitors by giving clients a clearer picture of the work being proposed.

Before You Begin

  • Have your images ready, either saved on your computer or accessible on another screen if you plan to use a snipping tool.

Adding a Picture from the Line Item Row

1. On the Estimate page, find the line item row you want to update.

2. Click the picture square on that row.

3. Choose how you want to add the image: drag and drop it (useful if you're using multiple screens with a snipping tool), or upload a picture saved on your computer.

4. Alternatively, click Generate AI Image to have an AI-generated image created for the line item.

Adding a Description from the Line Item Row

1. On the line item row, click into the description box.

2. Type in the description for the line item, or copy and paste it from a text file or other source.

Adding Pictures, Descriptions, and Attributes from the Item Cube

1. Click into the cube icon of the line item.

2. Add the description, picture, and attributes as needed, using the same options described above.

Previewing Your Changes

1. Click the Preview button to view how your proposal will appear to clients.

2. Review the layout to confirm that descriptions and images are displaying correctly.

3. Make any adjustments needed to improve clarity and visual appeal, and confirm that all elements align with the overall job scope and proposal objectives.

  • Use the AI Image Generator: If you don't have a photo on hand, generate one directly from the line item.
  • Keep Descriptions Clear: Write descriptions that clearly explain the scope of the line item to avoid client confusion.
