How to Add a Custom Quantity Formula to a Line Item

Learn how to add a custom quantity formula to a line item, working alongside linked dimensions to calculate the exact quantity or dimension needed.

Overview
You can add a custom quantity formula to a line item in your estimate. This works hand-in-hand with linked dimensions, letting you link a dimension to the line item and then apply a formula on top of it to calculate the exact quantity or dimension you need for that line item.

Before You Begin

  • Identify the line item you want to apply a custom quantity formula to.

  • Know which dimension you want to link to the line item, if applicable.

1. In your Estimate, click the cube icon on the line item.

2. Click into Quantity.

3. Choose a link dimension for this line item.

4. If needed, enter a quantity formula to use alongside the linked dimension.

Once set, the line item will calculate its quantity or dimension based on the linked dimension and the formula you applied, giving you the desired outcome for that line item.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Pair with Link Dimensions: Quantity formulas work hand-in-hand with linked dimensions, so set up the link dimension first for the formula to reference.

Why This Matters

  • Lets you calculate a line item's quantity or dimension exactly the way you need, based on a linked dimension plus your own formula.

Summary

Adding a custom quantity formula to a line item lets you link a dimension to that item and apply a formula on top of it, so the line item calculates the quantity or dimension you need.
